A few weeks ago, two of the kids we were mentoring had a conflict. One of the kids ended up getting pushed to the ground and his glasses knocked off. We explained to him that he did the right thing by not fighting back. We told him, "You know, you can always stick up for yourself. There's no problem sticking up for yourself and what you believe in. But, truly, the real man doesn’t hit back." Later, when we went back into the classroom, there was a quote on the wall from Martin Luther King Jr., and it pretty much summed up what we had just told him. I think Martin Luther King Jr. was a great man, and I was honored to show this kid how that quote impacted his life. After that, the two kids shook hands and played together and had fun.
